Cannibal Corpse killed it this time (alliteration and pun intended). This is their most exciting album since the Wretched Spawn in my humble opinion. A few subtle tweaks and they’re back on top. Of course, they don’t really have any bad albums, just a few ‘safe’ outings. They definitely win the award for most consistent death metal band that’s for damn sure.
Metal-Minded Musings
Amorphis - Unplugged
Because I’m a huge Amorphis fanboy, I really dig this version, ‘grandpa’s guitars’ and all. Mr. Tomi Joutsen was the best thing that could have ever happened to an aging Amorphis.
High on Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis (2012)
Holy ballz. This album is massive. High on Fire have created the ultimate heavy metal album. And I do mean heavy. Everything from the thick, fuzzed out tone to the Lemmy-on-a-serious-bender vokills, just drips heavy metal. Have I mentioned how heavy this album is? Go get this. Now.
Meshuggah - Koloss (2012)
This…is Meshuggah doing what they do best. ‘Nuff said.
Gojira
Been a while since I’ve seen this video. Great song. Awesome band. Pretty cool video. Looking forward to hearing some new material from these guys.
First metal radio show was a success, aside from the initial technical glitch anyway. Hey, ten minutes of silence is still pretty metal right? Anyway, metalheads listen here:

Kickin’ off Spring break the right way. With some old school Swedish death metal.
Haul for the Week of 3/4 - 3/10:
- Asphyx - Deathhammer
- Autopsy - All Tomorrow’s Funerals
- Napalm Death - Utilitarian
- Terrorizer - Hordes of Zombies
- Total Fucking Destruction - Hater
Nice little haul this week. The new Napalm is without a doubt the best metal album of 2012. No others need apply. Might as well skip to 2013. It is simply vicious, even when they’re at their most experimental. Grindcore sax anyone? It amazes me that this album manages to sounds so fresh and angry after 15 or so albums. Godfathers of grind indeed.
Psycroptic - The Inherited Repression (2012)
This is by far their best album. Technical without being mechanical, with a dash of groove thrown in in all the right places. Now if only they’d do something about those vocals.
So much good stuff coming out this year. I must hear this album!
